Strings Teacher – Part Time
Opening Statement
The Strings Teacher at Prairie Hill Waldorf School can expect to work two days a week in Grades 4-8 when school is in session (35 weeks), except days when there are school closings due to holidays, snow days, half days, teacher professional development days, and class field trips, among others.
About
Prairie Hill Waldorf School was founded in 1987 and is a full member of AWSNA (Association of Waldorf Schools of North America), WECAN (Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America) and a participant in the (WPCP) Wisconsin Parental Choice Program. Currently, there are 192 students from pre-k to grade eight, robust parent and tot classes and an outstanding faculty and staff of 47. Our faculty is grounded in a commitment to anthroposophy, and we have an enthusiastic and supportive parent body and board of trustees. We are an established, thriving school offering a Waldorf curriculum.
Prairie Hill Waldorf School is situated on 14 acres of land including gardens, fields, wetlands and small woods located in the beautiful Lake Country of Delafield between Milwaukee and Madison, Wi. Our families come from many areas in southeastern Wisconsin and are part of a strong and growing anthroposophical community. We are committed to providing a healthy, beautiful and sustainable environment which supports the pedagogical mission of the school.
Prairie Hill Waldorf Kindergarten is based on the belief that early childhood, birth to age 7, is a unique period of life that deserves nurturing, respect and time to grow. Our teachers are warm and inviting; able to balance the individual’s needs with the collective rhythm of the class. Daily outdoor play is an integral part of the program. Our curriculum inherently provides opportunities for natural curiosity and joy of childhood.
Essential Job Duties
Required Competencies:
• Ability to teach a love for music
• Plans for and directs each group lesson
• Selects appropriate lesson books and sheet music for each lesson
• Prepares appropriate homework exercises
• Selects suitable instruments for students and provides fingering instruction
• Prepares students for their pieces performed at festivals, assemblies, open houses, and community events
• Works with students from fourth through eighth grade to bring forth their music ability reflecting a spectrum of skill level
• Offers opportunities for each student to participate in experiences that offer different melodies and harmonies in an arrangement
• Ability to plan ahead and organize events within time frames and communicate these plans
with colleagues
• Composure – responds to information and situations in a self-controlled manner
• Humor – uses appropriate humor to maintain a positive environment
• Adaptability – flexible style, possesses the ability to change or be changed to fit circumstances, adjusts with ease

Qualifications
Education:
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree as well as training in teaching violin, viola and cello in the classroom setting. The candidate’s teaching repertoire should include classical and traditional folk or world music styles as well as notation for 5th grade and older. Ideal candidates will be familiar with or open to learning child development as seen through the Waldorf education pedagogy.
Employment Details
Hourly Wage: Range of $25.00- $45.00, depending on experience
