About
Prairie Hill Waldorf School was founded in 1987 and is a full member of AWSNA (Association of Waldorf Schools of North America), WECAN (Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America) and a participant in the (WPCP) Wisconsin Parental Choice Program. Currently, there are 192 students from pre-k to grade eight, robust parent and tot classes and an outstanding faculty and staff of 47. Our faculty is grounded in a commitment to anthroposophy, and we have an enthusiastic and supportive parent body and board of trustees. We are an established, thriving school offering a Waldorf curriculum.
Prairie Hill Waldorf School is situated on 14 acres of land including gardens, fields, wetlands and small woods located in the beautiful Lake Country of Delafield between Milwaukee and Madison, Wi. Our families come from many areas in southeastern Wisconsin and are part of a strong and growing anthroposophical community. Prairie Hill Waldorf Kindergarten is based on the belief that early childhood, birth to age 7, is a unique period of life that deserves nurturing, respect and time to grow. Our teachers are warm and inviting; able to balance the individual’s needs with the collective rhythm of the class. Daily outdoor play is an integral part of the program. Our curriculum inherently provides opportunities for natural curiosity and joy of childhood.
Essential Job Duties
What are your duties?
As the Lead teacher of up to 18 children, you will be responsible for:
– Creating and implementing a Waldorf curriculum
– Training and mentoring a full-time assistant and a part-time afternoon nap assistant
– Maintaining the classroom budget and handing in expenses to the bookkeeper
– Writing monthly family newsletters to ensure timely communication
– Holding Family/Teacher conferences twice a year
– Conduct Grade 1 assessments alongside colleagues
– Attend weekly faculty, department and mandate meetings
What does the day look like?
The day begins with the children being dropped off to gather and explore the outdoor classroom until the class ventures off on a meadow walk. During meadow walk or shortly after, the teachers and children engage in circle and movement. After the meadow walk, the class returns to the outdoor classroom for more play, snack, and good work. Sometimes the class moves indoors for painting, handwork, making rolls, or other activities. Examples of good work include raking, gardening, building, chopping vegetables for stone soup, helping a friend, and more. The teacher shares a story or puppet play before lunch is served, family style and set with reverence. Everyone has a role in helping prepare and clean up for lunch. Rest follows lunch and a bit more play to conclude the day as parents meet their children’s class outside for pickup.
Qualifications
