Mālamalama Waldorf School is on the eastside of the beautiful island of Hawai’i and is accepting applications for a Lead Early Childhood Teacher, supported by an assistant, for the 2025/2026 school year whose love for children is complimented by their ability to work well with colleagues and parents. We are looking for individuals with enthusiasm and commitment to Waldorf Education to be guiding forces in our welcoming school.

Our School Community

Mālamalama Waldorf School was founded in 1978 by a group of devoted parents and educators seeking a different educational experience for children in the Puna district of the Big Island. MWS is in the residential subdivision of Hawaiian Paradise Park, nestled on a 20-acre parcel in a beautiful, wooded setting. In 1979 MWS was incorporated as an independent, non-profit educational and cultural organization in the State of Hawai’i. The school is a well-respected member of the Big Island community dedicated to Waldorf Education preschool through 8th grade. MWS is accredited by AWSNA, WASC, HAIS, and is a WECAN member.

On the Big Island, we are blessed with a beautiful natural environment, rich cultural opportunities, temperate climate, cultural diversity as well as boasting a most unusual volcanic landscape, ranch lands, and beaches. You can surf in the morning and don winter apparel for a respectful visit to the summit of Mauna Kea in the afternoon.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will be experienced Waldorf educators, have completed Waldorf Early Childhood training, and hold a bachelor’s degree or higher. Previous Waldorf teaching experience is preferred. We are seeking individuals with a commitment to excellence in teaching along with excellent communication skills providing parent education and working collegially. Our Lead Teacher will have a joyful love for the young child. Other requirements: First Aid/CPR certified, possesses a Director/Teacher designation for a Center-Based program with Hawai`i Dept. of Human Services Early Childhood Registry, pass a background check and have 12 Early Childhood Education credits.

Full-time positions are paid a salary, receive Professional Development, and Tuition Remission. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO.
