Opening Statement
The Waldorf School of Louisville is seeking a full-time Early Childhood Lead teacher for the 2025-26 school year. The start date for this position is July 1, 2025. The ideal candidate has previous Waldorf teaching experience and/or a Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher Certification. The Lead Teacher will have the support of a classroom assistant, the Early Childhood Team, Administration and the full faculty.
The task of the Early Childhood teacher at the Waldorf School of Louisville is to bring the Waldorf Early Childhood curriculum to the children with enthusiasm, imagination, and integrity.

The Waldorf School of Louisville (WSL) is a privately funded, independent school in Jefferson County, Kentucky, serving children from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. Essential Job Duties
About the Position
Child/Curriculum:
- The Early Childhood teacher works towards a deep understanding of the Waldorf Early Childhood curriculum- including child development, providing appropriate activities, and creating an optimal physical environment. The Early Childhood teacher works to implement the curriculum to best meet the particular group of children in their care.
- The Early Childhood teacher is committed to their own spiritual development and meditative work upon the children. This includes child study and a continued study of anthroposophy as it relates to the Waldorf curriculum and child development. Developmental concerns are documented via the child concerns process and brought to team meetings.
- The Early Childhood teacher provides guidelines and expectations through a consistent daily and weekly rhythm. This includes age appropriate activities such as a movement circle, songs, games, story, artistic and practical activities, cooking, work with the festivals, and independent play.
- The Early Childhood teacher provides a model worthy of imitation that is imbued with clear gesture and movement. It is the teacher’s responsibility to hold the physical and emotional safety of the children as the children develop their social skills.
- The Early Childhood teacher creates a classroom community in which the children learn to respect and understand themselves and one another. The teacher provides age appropriate modeling in order to help the children work out their differences in a socially healthful way.
- The Early Childhood teacher is responsible for the physical well-being and safety of the children. This includes attention to outdoor activities and physically aggressive behavior.
Colleagues and Parents:
- The Early Childhood teacher is expected to communicate regularly with parents, the classroom assistant and aftercare provider about the children in their care
- The Early Childhood teacher participates in team meetings, faculty meetings, and committee meetings as well as other designated administrative work.
- The Early Childhood teacher conducts ongoing observations of the children’s progress and provides a written evaluation at two parent/teacher conferences and the end of the year. Written evaluations are not required for parent-child.
- The Early Childhood teacher holds parent education meetings and distributes a class newsletter, articles and other relevant materials.
Administrative:
- The Early Childhood teacher interviews Early Childhood children and families in order to make a recommendation as to the placement of the child.
- The Early Childhood kindergarten teacher completes assessments of first-grade-ready children within their own classroom and makes recommendations to the team, whole faculty, and to the parents, as to the placement of the child. .
- The Early Childhood teacher is expected to be knowledgeable about, and adhere to, the policies and procedures set forth by the Board of Trustees and Faculty.
- The Early Childhood teacher is expected to be knowledgeable about and to comply with state Daycare, Health Department and fire regulations as they apply to children. This includes an orientation through CHR within the first three months of employment, 15 hours of additional training in Early Childhood annually, and CPR/First Aid certification.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in a related field)
- Waldorf Early Childhood Training Certification (preferred) or ability and willingness to attend training is required for this position. Training stipend to be determined.
- childcare experience and classroom management skills.

Employment Details
When not subject to local workspace closure requirements, this position is on-site at WSL’s campus. Organization hours are 8:00-3:15, with additional hours as agreed upon by team for meetings.
Summary of Salary for WSL Full Time Employees:
- Rate of Base Pay: $ $38,325
- Completed Waldorf Training: $2,000
- Master’s Degree in related field: $2000
