Opening Statement

The Washington Waldorf School is seeking a substitute/floater for the Early Childhood program for the 2025-2026 school year.

This is a part-time, hourly position from 8:00am – 1:15pm daily.

About

Founded in 1969, Washington Waldorf School operates in the Cabin John/Glen Echo area of Bethesda, MD, just outside of Washington, DC. The school serves 285 students and their families, from ages pre-K through Grade 12. Washington Waldorf cultivates each student’s capacity to think clearly, feel compassionately, and act purposefully in the world. We are committed to the education movement inspired by the pioneering work of Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner and advanced by Waldorf teachers worldwide.

Essential Job Duties

The primary role is to be a substitute in the Children’s Garden assisting the lead teacher in any of our classes beginning with the youngest at age 2 in our Seedlings class through age 6 in the mixed-age Kindergarten classes.

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • Experience working with young children.
  • Familiarity or strong interest in Waldorf education.
  • Ability to meet Maryland Office of Child Care licensing requirements, and ability to pass a comprehensive Maryland criminal background check.
  • Completion of OCC 90 hour training or equivalent is preferred. WWS provides assistance for the 90 hour course fees for new hires.

A bachelor’s degree and training in Waldorf early childhood education are preferred. Otherwise, we seek an assistant who has a warm and open disposition, is enthusiastic, energetic, and patient, with an ability to care for children of mixed age.

Employment Details

This part time hourly position pays $25/hour.  It does not offer benefits, but is a great opportunity to gain experience in a thriving Waldorf school.
