Opening Statement
The Washington Waldorf School, located in Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking a part time Lower School Aftercare Assistant on Thursday and Friday afternoons from 2:45pm – 6:00pm. This hourly position provides care for children in grades 1-8 in the aftercare program and is primarily outdoors. Additional hours will be required for full or half-day childcare when the school is closed for classes (ie: during parent/teacher conferences). These class closure days are set in advance. There may be additional afternoon hours supporting Lower School and Children’s Garden classrooms. While the assistant may lead certain activities, the primary responsibility for instruction lies with the Aftercare Director.
We seek assistants who are enthusiastic, energetic, flexible and patient with a desire to grow as a teacher.

Founded in 1969, Washington Waldorf School operates in the Cabin John/Glen Echo area of Bethesda, MD, just outside of Washington, DC. The school serves 285 students and their families, from ages pre-K through Grade 12. Essential Job Duties
- Overseeing individual children and small groups.
- Assisting with snack preparation, keeping track of snack supplies and preparation duties as designated by the Aftercare Director.
- Support the Aftercare Director with maintaining sign-in/sign-out sheet, and any incident reporting.
- Help children maintain their environment and equipment.
- Carry out and adhere to all safety protocols and appropriate actions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of each child in the aftercare program
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Desire to work with elementary aged-children.
- Ability to model a calm demeanor for the children.
- Enjoys being outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Familiarity or strong interest in Waldorf education.
- Ability to pass a Maryland Background check.
- CPR certification (training will be provided if needed)
Employment Details
This hourly position provides Sick and Safe leave on an accrued basis (1 hr for every 30/hrs worked). It does not provide any other benefits.
The hourly rate for this position is $36/hour.
