Sacramento Waldorf School (SWS) is a dynamic and inclusive community committed to fostering holistic education from Early Childhood through Twelfth Grade. Established in 1959, SWS is the oldest Waldorf school in Northern California, with a rich history and a strong commitment to academic and artistic excellence. Our 22-acre campus, nestled alongside the American River, offers a unique setting that includes a working farm and ample outdoor learning spaces. Essential Job Duties
- Classroom Management: Develop and maintain a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment for preschool children, ensuring the well-being and growth of each child.
- Activity Planning: Implement Waldorf-inspired activities and curriculum that nurture social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development in alignment with the school’s educational approach.
- Observation and Documentation: Observe and document the developmental progress of each child, tracking milestones and creating individualized learning plans as needed.
- Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues in the Early Childhood faculty to develop a cohesive, team-oriented approach to teaching, and collaborate with other staff members to support school-wide initiatives.
- Parent Communication: Build strong, supportive relationships with families, keeping them informed of their child’s progress and guiding them in understanding the Waldorf approach to education.
- Compliance and Certification: Maintain up-to-date CPR/First Aid certification, Mandated Reporter Training, and other state-required documentation, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development, including attending workshops, faculty meetings, and other learning opportunities to grow as an educator.
- School Participation: Contribute to school-wide activities, special events, and initiatives that foster a sense of community and collaboration among faculty, staff, and families.
Qualifications
- Education: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.), including 12 core semester units in early childhood education/development.
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years as a Lead Early Childhood Teacher in a Waldorf school or Waldorf setting.
- Certification:
- CPR/First Aid certification, including Infant/Child certification, or the ability to become certified by the start of the school year.
- Criminal Record Clearance.
- Mandated Reporter Training certificate (AB1207).
- Health screening and TB clearance.
- Immunization records (MMR, Tdap, and flu). If waiving the flu vaccine, a declination statement must be signed.
- Licenses/Registrations: Certification and experience related to Waldorf Early Childhood Education.
Employment Details
- Full Time Position
- Pay Range: $48,969 – $65,000
- Monday – Friday, with some nights and weekends
- Hours per Week: 40+
- Start Date: August 1, 2025

If employed for 75% or more over the course of the year, employees are eligible for the following school-provided benefits:
- Health and Dental Insurance: 95% employer-paid for select plans for individuals
- Dependent Health and Dental Insurance: 75% of the premium
- Vision Insurance: Partial employer-paid for individual and dependents
- Tuition Remission: Eligible dependent children receive a tuition remission equal to 75% of the employee’s Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) percentage, applicable to employees who are 75% FTE or higher.
- Life Insurance: $10,000 policy with the option to purchase additional coverage
- Paid Time Off: Personal time, holidays, and sick leave as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Retirement Plan: Up to 2% match in the School’s Retirement Plan upon completion of two years of full-time employment
