Mathematics in Waldorf Grades 5-8: Profound and Practical Considerations
In this two-week intensive, in two sessions per day, Ms. Annan will offer presentations and project ideas that interweave the profound and practical aspects of mathematics. Participants will explore math lesson blocks and gain insight into the concepts and skills needed to effectively teach mathematics in grades 5–8 in a Waldorf school. Resources will be provided, including a “scope and sequence” for all grades 5-8 math lesson topics and grade-specific math skills.
Week One (July 14-18): Geometry Presentations and Projects
- Form drawing and freehand geometry in grade 5
- Geometrical constructions with straightedge and compass in grade 6
- The imaginative and artistic thread of Geometry through the grades
Week Two (July 21-25): Form and Number
- Business Math in grade 6
- Patterns and pre-Algebra in grade 7
- Algebra and Platonic Solids and Archimedean Solids in grade 8
Daily Schedule
