Chicago Waldorf School student June Chen Ahleman is in the news at the Evanston RoundTable for her larger-than-life oil portraits. June interviews and photographs her subjects before beginning her portrait work and then sketches the subjects in small format before scaling them up to her 4′ x 8′ work.
In order to create paintings that reveal the whole person, June sometimes records the interviews or visits again with subjects while her art is in progress. June’s newest art show, “Identity and Fortune,” is a study on Asian American Identities through large-scale portraits.
Those in the Chicagoland area can see June’s show Saturday, March 4, 5-8 pm and Sunday March 5, 12-5 pm at the 1100 Florence Gallery at 1100 Florence Ave, Evanston IL 60202.
