Math & Science Teachers

Job Category:  High School: Grades 9-12 and Middle School: Grades 6-8

Opening Statement

The Summerfield Waldorf School & Farm High School is seeking math & science teachers to work collaboratively with our students and faculty.

Summerfield is seeking teachers with broad imaginations for teaching math and science phenomenologically: guiding students to insight through lived encounters with the real world rather than teaching rote concepts. The science curriculum, which covers Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Science, builds on itself over the four grades, in accordance with the development of thinking and consciousness of the high school students by age. Science and Math teachers work collaboratively to bring the subject they are most skilled in teaching. Math tracks span Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry and Calculus and require the curiosity and creativity to work with students of varying abilities simultaneously. Math blocks may include 10th grade Sacred Geometry and Conic Sections, and 11th grade Projective Geometry as well as 8th grade Platonic Solids. As many of these classes are unique to Waldorf schools, the ideal candidate would have Waldorf experience, and a willingness to be trained in Waldorf pedagogy is a requirement. The Math and Science department is made up of several faculty members with different concentrations, most of whom share the Math curriculum.

About

Summerfield Waldorf School & Farm serves nearly 270 students from five different counties north of the San Francisco Bay in Parent-Toddler Classes through Grade 12. A highly committed and experienced faculty is supported by a long-tenured and efficient administrative staff and active board of trustees. Summerfield Waldorf School & Farm also enjoys an enthusiastic and generous parent community.

Our beautiful 38-acre campus is located in beautiful Sonoma County, just 60 miles north of San Francisco and is bordered by small farms, vineyards, and a natural creek/wildlife area. In addition to the school’s educational facilities, a 7-acre Biodynamic® farm and wildlife preserve are located on the campus. We enjoy an idyllic Mediterranean climate, with springtime fields of wildflowers, hot summers cooled at night by ocean fog, rich autumn light on vibrant harvest colors, and wet, green winters.
