Opening Statement
The High School Teacher is a full time active member of the Toronto Waldorf School Faculty who is responsible for carrying a class of up to 24 students in the high school years. The teacher will evaluate each child’s academic, emotional and social progress and report to parents regularly through written reports and interviews. The teacher has a designated number of duties, administrative and other, in addition to their teaching responsibilities. They will attend all faculty meetings and assist with other school events wherever possible.

Toronto Waldorf School, founded in 1968, serves 350 students and their parents from birth through Grade 12. We are located just north of Toronto, Ontario on 18 acres including a large wooded area and a section of protected ecological ravine. We serve a diverse multicultural community. Our unique building was designed to be a Waldorf school from the ground up. We have a large and dynamic faculty and staff, with a diverse mix of experience and backgrounds. Several anthroposophically-based organizations work alongside us on our campus including a residence for seniors, and the Rudolf Steiner Centre College for adult education. Our school is accredited by AWSNA (Association of Waldorf Schools of North America) and we offer an Ontario Ministry of Education High School Graduation Diploma which enables University and College entrance, along with our Waldorf Diploma in Grade 12.
Essential Job Duties
Responsibilities:
• The High School teacher is responsible for teaching High School Math and/or Biology
• Quarterly reports to parents through a written report card and an interview at the Parent/teacher interviews in November and February
• For the courses being taught, preparing and executing lesson plans that address multiple learning modalities, with experiential component, where possible (designing, planning and executing experiments with student safety in mind)
• Helping to prepare classroom for festivals
• Ordering & stocking materials for Biology experiments
• Organized upkeep of the student spaces in the lab
• prepare assessments that reflect ministry and AWSNA guidelines
• Attending to homeroom duties with a co-teacher. (Advisorship)
• Preparing report cards and advisor narratives
• Attending once a week faculty meeting
• Helping to plan and join yearend class trips and beginning of the year whole high school camping trip
• Joining high school evening events (wings of the arts, prom, graduation, Halloween dance)
• Accompanying students on day field trips
• Outdoor education program development and execution (sustainable ecosystems grd 9)
• Taking a lead on end-to-end project management of at least one high school event. (team sports coaching, prom, etc.)
• Collaborating with middle school colleagues for teaching science main lessons

Requirements:
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task with confidence, converting strategies into effective operational activities and achievements.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, approachable for students, parents and colleagues.
• Willingness and proven ability to work within a community environment.
• Active and ongoing research and development in academic area of expertise.
• Skills in classroom management and discipline follow-through.
• Waldorf Teacher Education certification or accepted equivalent experience.
• Minimum university bachelor’s degree, and bachelor of education, or equivalent combination of education and work experience with a major in math and/or science.
Employment Details
Compensation:
Salary range is between $50,000 to $82,533 for a fulltime position and is determined based on years of experience and education. Benefits plan includes RSP contribution, health, vision, dental coverage and tuition remission.
