The Washington Waldorf School, located in Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking a full time Educational Support Specialist for Middle School and High School students effective immediately.
The Educational Support Specialist plays a critical role supporting students with diverse learning profiles, providing individualized and small-group instruction, and collaborating with faculty and families to ensure academic success.

Founded in 1969, Washington Waldorf School operates in the Cabin John/Glen Echo area of Bethesda, MD, just outside of Washington, DC. The school serves 285 students and their families, from ages pre-K through Grade 12. Washington Waldorf cultivates each student’s capacity to think clearly, feel compassionately, and act purposefully in the world. We are committed to the education movement inspired by the pioneering work of Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner and advanced by Waldorf teachers worldwide.
Essential Job Duties
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review psycho-educational assessments and generate learning plans for students.
- Conduct individual and small-group sessions focused on building academic skills, study strategies, and executive functioning.
- Lead coordinated professional development sessions for faculty to enhance their knowledge of best teaching practices.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide strategies and accommodations that support diverse learners in an inclusive environment.
- Conduct assessments to identify student strengths and areas of need, and provide actionable feedback.
- Serve as a resource for faculty on effective teaching strategies for neurodivergent learners.
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress and strategies for support.
- Coordinate with outside professionals (e.g., tutors, therapists and evaluators) to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of best practices and emerging research in the field of learning support and neurodiversity.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend Department and Faculty Meetings.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives that promote equity, inclusion and diversity in education.
- Support professional development opportunities for faculty related to learning differences and instructional strategies.
- Attend and assist with school events, including parent-teacher conferences, open houses and student support meetings.
Qualifications
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated knowledge of learning differences, neurodivergent learning profiles, and executive functioning challenges.
- Strong understanding of assistive technologies and their application in an academic setting.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and colleagues in a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Commitment to fostering a positive, growth-oriented learning culture for all students.
Employment Details
The compensation for this position includes a salary range of $51.5K – $64K and our full benefits package which includes health, disability and life insurance; dental reimbursement; retirement plan (after 1 year of employment); optional dental, vision and illness/accident insurance; professional development support; and tuition remission for the teacher’s children attending WWS.
