The Waldorf School of Orange County is seeking a First Grade Teacher to join our dedicated faculty for the 2025-2026 school year!

About

With over 35 years of successful learning as a College led school, we continue to joyfully welcome new students each year, from kindergarten through high school. Today, we proudly serve more than 350 students across all grade levels. Our expansive campus, located less than three miles from the Pacific Ocean, is surrounded by a large park and nature preserve, providing a beautiful setting for learning. Students and teachers of all ages collaborate daily, fostering a strong sense of community and shared growth.

Essential Job Duties

A full time teacher holds between 16 and 21 classes per week and serves the school in additional capacities including yard duty, holding nominal roles, and serving on groups as needed to support the overall health of the school.

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Provides curriculum content to students in hired subject
  • Supervises students both in and out of the classroom
  • Arrives on time and prepared for the lesson(s) of the day
  • Maintains classroom organization and creates an environment conducive for learning
  • Supports other teachers as necessary
  • Participates in the life of the whole school and contribute to its working as required, including but not limited to, faculty meetings, committee meetings, board meetings, substitution
  • Files student reports in a timely manner, as indicated by the Registrar
  • Provides yard supervision outside of the classroom as assigned

Parent Relations:

  • Communicates all necessary calendar and announcements to class families
  • Organizes and holds regularly-scheduled parent orientation meetings
  • Responds to Admissions Director regarding prospective student inquiries
  • Meets individually with families at least once per school year to discuss and support their child’s development and progress

 School Responsibilities:

  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other faculty development activities
  • Attends and participates in ongoing professional development from both Waldorf and non-Waldorf sources, including but not limited to workshops, conferences and classroom visits
  • Attends and participates in marketing and outreach programs
  • Takes on committee work as expected by the school
  • Trains, directs and supervises the work of the assistant teacher (if applicable)
  • Meets regularly with assistant teacher to discuss responsibilities, classroom matters, and individual children
  • Commits to communicating with colleagues and is willing to seek resolution using school-provided resources should difficulties between colleagues arise
  • Initiates and participates in child studies and pedagogical studies
  • Agrees to abide by the policies and procedures of the Waldorf School of Orange County set forth in the Employee Handbook, Faculty Guidelines, Parent Handbook and Governance Manual
  • Prepares classroom for start of the school year
  • Acquires materials and supplies, working within the appropriate school budget
  • Oversees the physical environment for aesthetic, safety and maintenance concerns, and notifies the appropriate bodies of the school for repair or improvement

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Waldorf Teacher Training Certificate
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • TB test, finger print and DOJ clearance required
  • Familiarity with Waldorf education required

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Teaching Credential

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

First Aid Certificate

CPR Certificate

KNOWLEDGE OF: Child Abuse reporting laws, WSOC Parent and Employee Handbooks

  • Model core Waldorf values
  • Work through imitation as opposed to intellectualizing or narrating
  • Promote the school and its mission effectively
  • Maintain confidentiality about a child or a family situation with discretion and tact
