Opening Statement
Madison Waldorf School (MWS) is seeking a creative, engaged and motivated teacher to lead our
foreign language program. We are seeking a teacher for any Non-Germanic language, as we
currently have a German language program.
About
Madison Waldorf School’s mission is to provide an education that honors every child’s
enthusiasm for initiative, creativity and social responsibility. MWS offers early childhood
through grade eight education, including German, movement, handwork and woodwork and
strings. In addition, we have a parent/child program to introduce young families to Waldorf
education. MWS is an associate member school with AWSNA and WECAN.
The school is located in the vibrant city of Madison, Wisconsin. Home to the state capital and the
flagship campus of the University of Wisconsin, Madison offers one of the richest intellectual
and cultural environments in the world for a city of its size. Neighborhood festivals and cultural
events of all types abound, and this small city of 280,000 people is truly a place where there is
always "too much to do." Madison offers a rich mix of farmers’ markets. natural food
cooperatives and stores, and a wide variety of CSAs. Outdoor recreation is also a way of life for
Madisonians: along with the city’s beautiful location between two large lakes, the city boasts
numerous parks and many miles of bike and walking paths. With all this and more, many
residents will claim that Madison offers an ideal place to live and raise a family, and it is no
surprise that Madison is regularly cited as one of the most livable cities in the US.
Essential Job Duties
This position will lead our classes 1-8 in a journey of language learning with curriculum and
activities that meets the needs of each developmental stage, following the Waldorf curriculum.
Gradually building on the foundation in the early grades, the students are introduced to writing
and reading while continuing to build speaking, comprehension and auditory skills. Our middle
school program follows a more traditional model, with focus on building fluency in speaking,
listening, writing and reading.
Qualifications
Clear background check. Prefer native language speakers and some experience teaching.
