South Shore Waldorf School Seeking Kindergarten Teacher 2025
The South Shore Waldorf School is seeking an Early Childhood Kindergarten teacher for a mixed-age kindergarten. The ideal candidate has familiarity with Waldorf education and experience and/or training in early childhood settings, with a background in Waldorf Teacher Training in Early Childhood Education preferred. We are looking for someone who is hard-working, has a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and possesses storytelling and singing skills. The perfect candidate works with purpose and enthusiasm and is looking to grow with our school and community.
About
OUR SCHOOL: The South Shore Waldorf School is found in Blockhouse, set on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada, close to the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Lunenburg, the charming small town of Mahone Bay, and about an hour south of the city of Halifax. We are an AWSNA developing school and a full member of WECAN.
The school was founded by a small but dedicated group of parents in 1996. The faculty work collaboratively with parents, administrative staff, and a committed board of directors to provide a beautiful Waldorf education to our students.

Essential Job Duties
RESPONSIBILITIES
● Working with children ages 3-6 as the Kindergarten Class Teacher
● The classroom work day is from 7:45am-3:15pm Monday-Thursday and 7:45am-1:45pm on Fridays
● Care for the physical and emotional well being of the children and their families
● Foster positive relationships with their colleagues, the children, and families
● Be aware of the creative play of children, and redirect and inspire them as necessary
● Participate in domestic activities joyously, including: planning and cooking meals daily for the kindergarten children; care for the physical environment both inside and out such as maintaining a beautiful classroom that is clean and orderly; helping with the gardens ● Teaching by example
● Enjoy and interact with the outdoors in all weather conditions
● Maintain needed paperwork, including taking classroom daily attendance
● Be able to comfortably lift and carry a 35-40 lb child when necessary
● Be willing to climb a tree now and again
● Attend and participate in the Festival life of the school
● Plan for and hold Parent/Teacher meetings
● Plan and implement Parent Evenings (Information/Education talks for parents)
● Be involved in Outreach activities and School Open Houses
● Shop for groceries and purchase supplies
● Attend weekly faculty meetings every Thursday from 3:30-5:30pm
● Attend PD days and Teacher Conferences
● Know and implement discipline policy as set in the ‘School Handbook’
● Be committed to ongoing professional development
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
● Early Childhood Teacher training or experience
● Hold current First Aid and CPR certificate
● Submit a completed Vulnerable Sector check and Child Abuse Registry check
● Be able to follow Public Health guidelines
Employment Details
SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a 1 year contract with the possibility of renewal the following school year. All new employees are subject to a 3 month probationary period. Salary is $35,000-$40,000 depending on qualifications and years of experience and is in the range of other Waldorf Schools in provinces that receive no government support.
Faculty receive tuition remission for all their children. Faculty members also receive a small health allowance and mentoring.
