Opening Statement

Ashwood Waldorf School is seeking an early childhood assistant for the 2024-25 school year.

The ideal hours for the early childhood assistant position are 8 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. Monday-Friday. However, a full time schedule (8 a.m.-4 p.m.) may be possible.

Early Childhood Assistant Teacher

Classroom

Under the supervision of the lead teacher:

  • Assist with the smooth running of the program.
  • Carry logistical aspects of the morning, i.e. mixing paints, kneading dough, washing dishes, dressing the children for outdoors, helping them with the bathroom.
  • Help with puppet plays, in daily set-up and clean-up, with craft projects and on the playground.
  • Substitute for the teacher when needed.
  • Be available for two half-day meetings before the beginning of school in September after the end of school in June.

Pedagogy

  • Work with pedagogical indications of Rudolf Steiner.
  • Participate in child observation and study when possible.

Parents

  • Attend some parent evenings, and at least one outreach event, one open house, and one festival celebration each year.

Colleagues

  • Meet with the lead teacher each week. Some meetings will be informal check-ins and others will be scheduled.

Formal meeting arranged at the discretion of teacher and assistant.

Qualifications

Personal and Professional development

  • Strive to be worthy of imitation by the young child.
  • Maintain appropriate personal appearance and professional attire.
  • Participate in the annual self-evaluation and evaluation process as defined by school policy.
  • Maintain current CPR/1st Aid certification as required
  • Complete required trainings

When possible:

  • Attend Waldorf early childhood conferences or workshops.
  • Make a yearly visit to early childhood programs in other Waldorf schools.
