Opening Statement
Maine Coast Waldorf School is seeking a dedicated and dynamic full-time Handwork Teacher to carry the curriculum in grades fourth through eighth. The successful candidate will be a caring, energetic person who loves teaching children of this age and genuinely enjoys collaborating with colleagues.

Essential Job Duties
We seek a reflective professional who is committed to advocating for both their own needs and those of their students. This individual should excel in effective classroom management, fostering a calm, supportive environment that encourages learning and personal growth. Experience contributing to a positive school culture and the ability to establish rapport and regular communication with parents is a must.
This candidate should have experience teaching cross stitch, embroidery, 4-needle knitting, working with wool, natural dyeing, hand sewing, pattern making, and using a sewing machine.
Required Skills:

A deep understanding and appreciation for pre-adolescents and adolescents.

Knowledge of a wide range of fiber arts content, and the ability to effectively provide instruction in the same.

The ability to form and maintain positive relationships with all constituents: students, parents, and colleagues.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Strong artistic skills.

An interest in incorporating Waldorf principles into their teaching.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in education, arts, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:

Three years of related professional experience.

Teaching experience in a Waldorf school.

Waldorf Elementary Certification or certification in a Waldorf Fiber Arts program.

If an otherwise well-qualified applicant does not have the above qualifications, preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate an interest in deepening their understanding of Waldorf education through Waldorf teacher certification and/or continued professional development.
An individual without the above preferred qualifications will be considered as an interim one-year hire.
Employment Details
Compensation and Benefits: Salary begins at $49,603 with increases for a Master’s degree and full-time teaching experience in the same age-group. Benefits include 80% tuition remission, health and dental insurance, short term disability, and a retirement option through TIAA.
