Opening Statement

Maine Coast Waldorf School is seeking a Communications Manager.

Essential Job Duties

General Statement of Responsibilities: The Communications Manager takes up the role on behalf of school leadership (Board, Pedagogical and Business Administration) for both internal and external communications in support of our school and community. This role reports to the Business Director and will be required to attend all monthly board meetings to help connect the board work to the school community and additional meetings as needed.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and draft monthly bulletin to the school community

  • Ensure language is consistent and messaging is clear on the school website (updating as needed)

  • Provide channels of communication (existing or new) to the parent community, faculty, administration (including nurse’s office and cafe lunch program), as well as the board

  • Maintain and update the All School Calendar.

  • Support with review and edits for clarity and consistency regarding policies/protocols within the parent handbooks and the employee handbook

  • Collaborate with the Parent Association and Class Coordinators to ensure message alignment and transmittance

  • Support colleagues and families by providing updated content for and review of the summer mailing (enrollment forms, info, welcome letters, etc.)

  • Assist colleagues with drafting notices, emergent communications needs, etc.

  • Lead the refinement of digital communication strategy, including the school’s app for parents, updating the content for different groups as necessary

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager on the Weekly News and the High School Chair on the High School newsletter

  • Developing “welcoming” strategies or experiences/communications for new families

  • Attend bi-weekly, school-year Admin Team Meetings

Qualifications

  • Professional communications background, preferably 5–7 years relevant experience

  • Mission-driven motivation for MCWS values and culture

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant field

  • Understanding and appreciation of internal and external communications best practices while also being able to find your place in a non-traditional, consensus-based, collaborative governance model

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Experience with GSuite products is a plus.

Employment Details

4-day/week schedule (year-round, with flexibility in the summer) compensation begins at a base salary of $39,680 and will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include tuition remission, health insurance, and retirement.
