Opening Statement

San Francisco Waldorf School is seeking a part time Grade School Math Specialist. The Grade School Math Specialist works together with the Educational Support Program at the San Francisco Waldorf Grade School to teach Math curriculum to 6th and 7th Graders.

The San Francisco Waldorf School (SFWS) was founded in 1979 and serves 400 students across a parent-child program, a preschool program, kindergarten, and the first through twelfth grades. The grade school campus is in the Pacific Heights neighborhood and is easily accessible via Muni lines.

Essential Job Duties

The schedule will be teaching Math curriculum to 6th graders (approximately 3-4 periods), 7th graders (4 periods). This will be about 7- 8 periods total a week (each period is one hour long).

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Be able to occasionally lift to 30 lbs.
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold
  • Regularly sitting or standing 4-8 hours

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with middle-school students in an academic environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) preferably in math
  • Experience working with children who may find math challenging
  • Flexibility in your schedule and willingness to adapt to new circumstances.
  • Patience, compassion, and empathy in dealing with students.
  • Ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly with relevant examples
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Specialized math training just as in Making Math Real
  • Waldorf teacher certification would be ideal

Employment Details

This is a .50 FTE exempt position with benefits including dental, flexible spending plans, retirement plan (employer contributions begin after one year of employment), and pro-rated (.50) tuition remission for eligible dependents in our Preschool -12th grade program. The full 1 FTE annual salary range is $60K – $85K depending on experience, and will be prorated to .50 FTE. Salaries are paid on a 12-month schedule.
